Cost of Driving Instructor Training:
When looking at the cost of driving instructor training it is important to compare like for like. Many have hidden costs. Things like additional pupil charges can run into a lot of money when you first start out because you are going to need a lot to start you off. Also the novice instructor will find they need more pupils in the beginning than the experienced. We never add such charges. We also give you more choice such as spreading the payments for training, different contract lengths etc.
3 or 12 month contract
You can chose a 3 month contract with us or pay less for your training and have a one year contract from qualification. This is the minimum amount of time you agree to let us provide you with work and you take advantage of our excellent service under our franchise as a fully qualified ADI (Qualified Driving Instructor).
Payment choices for you
Further more, you can chose to pay for your training by paying the total fee up front or spread the payments over 3 or 6 months and pay a little more.
You only pay for your test fees and any additional books you might need or choose.
When you are on franchise, either on a trainee licence or as an ADI and you are earning, you will pay your weekly fee. This is a flat rate weekly fee, we don’t reduce the price then charge additional for pupils or any of the other hidden costs. Weekly fees are variable depending on the hourly lesson rate. The office will give you more information on this as weekly rate depends on area and lesson rate.

How much will you earn?
Franchise fee
Our fees are variable and are based on a multiplier of the hourly rate for each area. Currently with a lesson rate of £40 per hour, the franchise fee for the area is £105.60 a week. Remember thats a flat rate. Many charge extra for pupils etc.
For example, if the hourly lesson rate rose to £41 an hour, your franchise would only rise to £108.24 thats a £2.64 rise. Yet your earning potential has gone up by £35 a week (if you do only 35hrs a week). Not a bad deal is it!
Earnings
1st 4 Driving‘s lesson price in your area is currently £40 an hour and £380 for a block of 10 hours. Each lesson is 2 hours so for 1 lesson, you will earn either £72 or £80, depending on whether your pupils pays as they go or does a block.
A regular day for a driving instructor will involve doing 4 lessons, 5 days a week that makes a 40 hour working week.
Some instructors may only do 3 lessons in a day but with a 5 day week that’s still 30 hours a week at £40 an hour. You have an earning potential of £1200 in just one week! You of course have the option to do more, or less!
